Thomas Ollivant, \u2018clerk\u2019 (vicar) of Hesket-in-the-Forest, Cumberland, died in 1686. His will included an inventory with a lot of names \u2013 local people who owed him various sums of money.<\/p>\n

These debts then became due to Thomas Ollivant\u2019s heirs.<\/p>\n

People researching any of those named would be very unlikely to seek out the will of Thomas Ollivant, so this post is to share the information it contains.<\/p>\n

The will of Thomas Ollivant<\/h2>\n

You can find the will and inventory at Carlisle Archives<\/a>, should you wish to read it in full.<\/p>\n

The will of Thomas Ollivant names wife Frances Ollivant<\/strong>, and their only son, John Ollivant.<\/strong> They also have one daughter, Sarah Ollivant<\/strong>, who was 21 at the time.<\/p>\n

Frances Ollivant was n\u00e9e Frances Ousby<\/strong>. The couple married in 1669.<\/p>\n

Their son John Ollivant was baptised (Hesket-in-the-Forest) in 1672 and died in 1717. He married Sarah Benson<\/strong> in 1691 and they had one son, Thomas, born in 1699.<\/p>\n

And that of his grandson, also Thomas Ollivant<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thomas Ollivant<\/strong> born 1699, obtained a commission in the Army, in 1721, in the \u2018Scots Fusiliers\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Captain Thomas Ollivant died in 1747. His will names lots of \u2018cousins\u2019 \u2013 I\u2019ve not been able to work them all out!<\/p>\n

The 1686 inventory<\/h2>\n
